Technical Support Officer – Belfast

Technical Support Officer required to work with the Belfast City Council based Port Health Unit.
The position is a Temporary position working full-time shift pattern,working 12 hour shifts, 2 weeks on days followed by 2 weeks on nights. The working pattern results in an average of 37 hours per week over a 4 week period. Starting times for shifts are 8am till 8pm and 8pm til 8am. The hourly rate Monday – Friday is £18.85, Saturday and Sunday rates are enhanced rates. Initially the position will be for 3 months on a temporary basis with an opportunity of this being extended based on performance.
The main duties include
- Container examination ensuring they meet port and public health guidelines.
- Protecting public and animal health by applying checks in accordance with UK, NI and EU legislation
- Responsible with handling telephone enquiries with agents, porters and shipping lines
- Carrying out manifest and ID checks on low-risk products and the preliminary ID checks on high risk products
- Adhering to EHOs regulations
- Assisting with physical checks and sampling of high risk food stock.
- Performing administrative tasks ensuring all documents are kept updated
- Post-holders may be required to handle and be exposed to food product allergens, for example, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, etc
What We Need From You
- Must have third level qualification in a relevant subject such as food science, food technology or logistics and supply chain management
- Two years relevant experience working as a food law enforcement officer or working with food safety management systems.
- Possess full, current UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
